The morning of an Iowa Connection session usually consists of coffee, a decent breakfast, a drive and an unwavering excitement. On June 29th, 2013 all of those things were present. With a stomach full of oatmeal and fruit, a cuban con leche in hand and a car full of my good friends, the day started off right. Once we made our way to Iowa City the day got even better. A group of about fifteen rollerbladers meet us at an infamous spot and, despite the looming rainclouds, started the 2013 summer session with the usual energy. Two hours into the session we were forced to retreat into a vacant building when those rainclouds opened up and drenched everything around us, including us. After a quick lunch break and some laughs, we were at it again. The session lasted into the cooling evening, with the group eventually splitting up to session different terrain, and I think everyone left feeling good about the session and the company. The moral of the day: don’t miss these sessions (even if the weather looks menacing) because we will make the best of any situation.
