Logan Clark. 180. Des Moines. (Click photo to enlarge)
Words and photos by Adam Morris
Logan Clark continues to make a name for himself. I knew that, but it was reinforced after moving to Milwaukee recently and already hearing several people say how sick his skating is.
Over the summer he nailed a fourth-place finish at the 2008 Windy City Riot and tied for third-place at Milwaukee’s Brew City Bang Off.
Here’s a little taste of Logan’s blading from a small, mid-summer session in Des Moines.
NOTE: I’m experimenting with something in this post. Click on each small photo to see the big one AND to get some insight about the shoot.

sick pictures, and sick tricks as well.
tru mizou on a tall, almost handicap like rail, damn you’re gay
Wow. This photofile is SO sick. As always the quality of skating and photography I’ve come to expect from Logan and Adam.
Logan.. you’re a beast, I hope I get to skate with you again soon, its been TOO long homie
Adam.. amazing shots. I think the new feature is amazing. It’s always nice to know info about the rail. Too many photos go unrecognized cuz people dont know about “the huge crack right before the rail” or “how sticky the rail is” and stuff and miss the credit and praise they deserve. Really tight.
be easy.
Mike.
Sick pics i really like the back backslide photo good job log!
Adam, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the subtle humor in the AO Neg Mistrial photo. Not only is it just a good photo all together, but I like how the color scheme of Logan’s clothes match the building and sky almost perfectly. (The same could be said for the rest of the photos too). The question is, if I wore a hot pink shirt and red skates, could you do the same? I bet you could.
Logan, as far as the back backslide, (in my best Chris Tucker voice) Daaaaaaamn!
Great photofile for sure. Logan’s Halleran-like face on the back royale grab is awesome! Also, Morris these photos fit together perfectly, and I really like the angle choice on the 180. Logan really pops in all these, but especially that one. IOWhAt?
Is there a reason Logan wasn’t pictured in the Iowa Scene Check section in One? Instead we got a picture of a Iowa Blader standing amongst some corn (no offense to Jefferson).
Seth,
There are many reasons, actually. Most of them practical. Here are a few off the top of my head:
-Jefferson is easier to get together with. Logan lived 45 minutes away from Des Moines, was in school, had less reliable transportation, etc.
-There was a quick turnaround time.
-The assignment request came at a horrible time for me. I was preparing to move, searching for a job in Milwaukee, super busy with work and just plain had hardly any time to scout background scenery and make it happen, much less have time to do all this when my schedule AND someone else’s matched.
-Jefferson is well-known in many corners of rollerblading. Before the last year or so, he was still far better known than Logan. Jefferson’s been around longer, so that’s just how it is.
-Jefferson always has interesting and colorful clothing, so that adds to the image … hopefully an extra “grabber” for people who otherwise would flip past Krans’ article without reading it.
-I liked the idea of Jefferson’s Boondocks hat because I believe that is how many people think of — or thought of — Iowa … “the boondocks.”
-Jefferson is very comfortable in front of the camera. I was and still am learning about people/portrait photography, so that was important to me.
There’s probably more, but that’s my initial take. I hope all that makes sense.
And Jefferson’s pretty. (Not saying that Logan isn’t, but whatever)
If you look at the other scene’s pictures, they have similar ones. Like Minnesota had Haynes standing with a bike in the snow. Good photo, but no blading. Because let’s face it, there’s more to skaters in a scene than just the skating.
I agree with that. I guess I thought we’d want to give people the idea that there is more than corn in Iowa.
Oh yeah, the corn. Forgot to speak on that: There’s no corn in the photo. We DID want to give people the idea that there’s more than corn in Iowa. That’s why a rural-looking but noncornfield location is shown. Grass, gravel road, telephone pole/wire. Maybe a few trees in there, too. But definitely no corn. (Even if we had wanted to shoot a cornfield, the corn wouldn’t have been above the ground when that photo was taken.)
Anyway, thanks for asking, Seth. Nice to explain this all a bit. I mean, there are plenty of ways I would have done it differently had there been more time (or an opportunity for more photos).
Back on topic: I really like the parallel grab back royale.
I used to think about doing that gap everyday in high school.
